This coffee maker looks terrific and makes superb coffee. It is well designed although not run of the mill coffee maker. It is unique in looks and in performance. I am very pleased with this product.
I suppose that's why it flies open when you jam the lid into the latch with an improperly mounted filter basket. Yes, you have to carefully seat the filter basket into the opening and latch it down with the folding handle. I have owned this coffee maker for two years and it still works and looks great. The carafe sits on tiny rubber feet. The filter basket fits only one way. Forcing it or not latching the basket down properly causes undue stress on the lid. If the counter is wet in any remote way, the carafe slides back and the machine turns off. When I have water on the counter, I just place my coffee grinder against the handle of the carafe to ensure that it doesn't slide out.
We purchased this brewer in 2008 based on the review at [.]. Now, after another year, the replacement brewer is again leaking from the bottom and Capresso will not replace but requires $[.]. Within the first year the brewer started leaking from the bottom and soon became useless. Capresso replaced the brewer at no charge; they were easy to work with and the replacement came promptly. to "rebuild" the brewer. Fortunately I found a brewer on EBay and will use that until it dies because it does make good coffee (brews at correct temperature) and the thermal carafe keeps coffee hot without burning it.As others have noted, the plastic parts in the top are fragile and soon break (although this was not a serious problem on brewer #2 it was on #1); steam released out the back of the top condenses and water drips down onto the counter; you must be careful when inserting the pot into the brewer. There must be a good brewer that works correctly but this is not it.
But I love the way it produces consistently delicious coffee, at just the perfect temperature. My biggest issue is with the brewing basket. hoping that I was one of the consumers that had a good experience with it.Yes, it is finicky. I caught this coffeemaker when it was on sale for an incredible price.I read all the reviews, and held my breath. It's a no-brainer now, but it takes a tiny bit of practice to ensure it fits properly into place. Yes, it requires care. You do need to read the directions before using this coffee maker. I do a slight rocking twist motion that seats the filter basket perfectly and without strain.I find it is easy to keep clean. I run white vinegar through the coffee maker about once a month.I use a diluted bleach solution to remove coffee stains from the inside of the carafe, when needed.A clean coffee pot is very important for good coffee.
Really bad design. The plastic parts are VERY underdesigned and are not of the quality that the costs of this maker should deliver. The maker also is messy - dumping grounds into the brewed coffee and the reservior if you make it too strong. I've had it replaced under warantee once and the new unit has just broken. I've owned this maker for over a year now. Coffee seems to get everywhere on the top cover and all areas under the top cover.Overall the quaility of the brew is ok. Capresso was hard to deal with for the warrantee repair as well. I had to prove to them that I bought it through a retailer that they approved (which I did - but through an on-line site)In both cases the top has broken - trivial parts that make the unit inoperative. But the quirkyness of the top, the autoshutoff that turns of if the caraffe is bumped even slightly, the poor quality of all the plastic parts and the small hard to read controls (other than the ON) button should not occur in a maker that is this costly.I am really dissapointed. Capresso has certainly lost me as a customer.
